What is Reiki?

Healing with Heart and Energy

Reiki is a gentle, intuitive energy practice that works with the body’s natural flow—supporting balance across the physical, emotional, and energetic self. The word Reiki comes from Japanese:

  • “Rei” → universal / spiritual
  • “Ki” → life energy (the same idea as “chi” or “prana”)

So Reiki basically means “universal life energy.”

The idea behind Reiki is that your body has a natural flow of energy and everyday stresses, trauma, or illness can block or disrupt that flow. Reiki helps restore balance to that energy.

During a session you lie down fully clothed and I place my hands lightly on or just above your body. Energy is then “channelled” to where it’s needed. There’s no force or manipulation—it’s very calm and subtle.

At Earth & Aether, Reiki is offered as a quiet, grounding experience. Through light touch or hands held just above the body, energy is guided with care and intention, allowing the nervous system to soften and the mind to become still.

In this space, there is nothing to force and nothing to fix—only an opportunity to slow down, release tension, and return to a more balanced state.

Each session invites a subtle shift: from busy to calm, from disconnected to centred, from overwhelmed to restored.

What Can Reiki Help With?

People often use Reiki for:

  • Stress and anxiety
  • Emotional overwhelm
  • Burnout
  • Sleep issues
  • Feeling “out of balance”

It’s not a medical treatment, but it can support overall wellbeing.

Every experience is unique, but you may notice:

  • Warmth or tingling
  • A sense of heaviness or lightness
  • Emotional release
  • Deep calm or stillness

Or you may simply feel relaxed—and that is just as valuable. No experience or belief is needed. You simply come as you are, and allow yourself the time to rest and receive.
